Key congressional committees began to hear testimony this week on the impact of the President’s FY2014 budget proposal. What’s on the table? Our national defense and a serious threat to the earned benefits of all Airmen, retirees, Veterans and their family members.
AFSA heard testimony this week by many key DoD officials who are following in lockstep with Administration proposals for a 1% active duty pay raise versus the 1.8% raise scheduled under current law; lower annual cost-of-living allowances (COLAs) for retirees and survivors, reforms to the military retirement system; and many new TRICARE fees for beneficiaries that could easily raise healthcare fees by $1,000 a year for retired military families.
The promise we all continue to hear repeatedly, “We cannot, we must not, and we will not, balance the budget on the backs of our Veterans” is now being forgotten. Now more than ever I urge you to get involved and join our fight to “Stop the Chop” of your hard earned benefits.
