Update on Senate Veterans Omnibus Bill

The process may appear convoluted but the Senate could be on track to clear a major Veterans bill by close of business today.

This morning, the Senate will resume consideration of S.1982, the “Comprehensive Veterans Health and Benefits and Military Retirement Pay Restoration Act of 2014” following a period of regular business.

As previously stated, this bill addresses a wide array of military- and Veterans issues including key platform items like instate tuition for GI Bill and Post 9/11 education benefit users, and advance appropriations for many of VA’s compensation and benefit programs. Deliberations on S. 1982 are expected to continue into early afternoon when the schedule calls for a series of procedural votes related to the measure.

Eventually there may be other votes requiring a 60 vote majority in order for S. 1982 to proceed. Therefore, it is important that we continue to urge Senators to support final passage of this bill.

We’ve update our Capwiz letter to reflect the current situation in the Senate.
